Cambodia Welcomes Ceasefire Proposal, But Thailand Rejects It

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) will be deployed along the Thai-Cambodian border to monitor the situation. The results from satellite monitoring and on-site observations will be presented at the upcoming ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on December 16.

“Cambodia welcomes and supports the initiative of His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, for a ceasefire starting tonight, with monitoring and verification by the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) and participation from the United States.” Samdech Hun Manet stated this.

Shortly after the publication of the proposals from Cambodia and Malaysia, at 5:00 PM on December 13, 2025, Mr. Natthapol Nakpanich, Thailand’s Minister of Defense, confirmed that the government has not issued any ceasefire instructions to the military, and he emphasized that there will be no ceasefire until Cambodia clearly ends its hostility.
