Phnom Penh: On the morning of Sunday, August 17, 2025, following complaints from consumers regarding fraudulent use of a Cambodian barcode (884) affixed over a Thai barcode (885) on the packaging of Kofi brand milk products, officials from the General Directorate of Consumer Protection, Competition, and Fraud Repression (CCFD) conducted an inspection at the company’s showroom located on Mao Tse Tung Boulevard in Boeung Trabek commune, Chamkarmon district, Phnom Penh. The inspection confirmed the fraudulent barcode application, with the product owner acknowledging the issue.
In collaboration with the product owner, CCFD officials proceeded to inspect the warehouse where the products were stored, located near Dei Thkov Market in Boeung Trabek commune. They discovered a total of 205 cases of Kofi milk products, of which 144 cases had the barcode affixed and 61 cases did not. The product owner admitted to distributing the products to six provinces and provided import-related documents to the CCFD authorities for review.
Immediate measures taken by the working group:
- The product owner was ordered to recall all products with the affixed barcodes from all distribution and sales points in Phnom Penh and the involved provinces within two days. CCFD officials will monitor and inspect this process.
- The product owner was required to remove the Cambodian barcode stickers from all products under the supervision of CCFD officials.
- CCFD officials will take further action in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
